Marion Pakingan-Wong, MSW, MA
Since childhood, I’ve found fulfillment in helping and emotionally supporting others. I’ve always loved listening to people’s stories and learning about their experiences. As a second‑generation Filipina American and the child of immigrant parents, I often felt like the “black sheep” of my family — turning to conversation and connection rather than keeping my struggles inside. Those experiences gave me insight and empathy that I now bring to my work as a therapist, helping others find understanding and healing without having to face the same challenges alone.
I specialize in trauma‑informed therapy, working with children, adolescents, and families. My path began with a BA in psychology and an MA in child development, where I researched cultural identity formation in young children. That academic foundation led me to early intervention work, where I discovered my passion for supporting families affected by domestic violence, immigration stress, and refugee experiences. These experiences inspired me to pursue my Master of Social Work (MSW) and dedicate my career to helping children and families heal through empathy, humor, and connection.
My counseling philosophy is organic and eclectic — I tailor each session to the individual sitting across from me. I draw from multiple therapeutic approaches, including ARC (Attachment, Regulation, and Competency) and TF‑CBT (Trauma‑Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), customizing treatment to meet each client’s unique needs. I believe therapy is a partnership: while I bring clinical knowledge, my clients bring their lived experience and insight. Together, we build trust, resilience, and growth.
I’ve worked extensively with immigrant families and children of immigrants in both Massachusetts and New Jersey, combining my background in developmental psychology with a deep understanding of cultural identity and family dynamics. My approach blends empathy and humor to create a safe, collaborative space where clients feel seen and supported.
Outside of work, I’m a dedicated mother, friend, and community member. I served as treasurer of my son’s school PTA during the COVID‑19 pandemic and designed the school yearbook during his final year there. I love cooking, reading, singing, and exploring different cultures through food — I like to think of myself as a “foodie on a budget.” Music, family, and learning keep me grounded and connected.
I hold a BA in Psychology from The College of New Jersey, an MA in Child Development from Tufts University, and an MSW from Boston University. I’m certified in ARC therapy and ARC‑Grow parenting skills, trained in TF‑CBT through Rowan Medicine’s CARES Institute, and currently pursuing full certification. My work is guided by compassion, cultural awareness, and the belief that healing begins with connection
