Nicola Foster-Wilsher, LAC
I discovered my calling as a therapist while teaching children, adolescents, and adults. Over the years, students would often come to my office to share deeply personal experiences, and I felt humbled that they trusted me with their stories. Those moments revealed my true vocation — psychotherapy — where I could help others explore their emotions and find healing through connection and understanding.
I specialize in Modern Analysis, a gentle and thoughtful therapeutic approach that aligns with my personality and values. This method allows clients to explore their inner world safely and without fear of judgment. I work with individuals who feel stuck or want a deeper understanding of why they think, feel, and react the way they do.
My counseling philosophy centers on creating a safe, empathetic, and nonjudgmental environment where clients lead their own self‑exploration. I believe therapy is a collaborative process that fosters insight, growth, and emotional freedom. My goal is to help clients uncover patterns, heal from pain, and build stronger relationships with themselves and others.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with children, adolescents, and adults, both as an educator and therapist. I understand the challenges of parenting, the complexities of adolescence, and the emotional toll of life transitions. Having personally experienced post‑natal depression and anxiety, I bring compassion and authenticity to my work. I also value couples therapy for its transformative power in strengthening relationships.
As an immigrant from the UK, I bring decades of experience and a deep understanding of how difficult cultural transitions can be. I’m compassionate, kind, and humble — qualities that help me connect with clients from all walks of life. I also work with the LGBTQ+ community and am an analyst in training at the Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis in Livingston, NJ.
Outside of therapy, I love spending time with my family, friends, and pets — including our mini‑schnauzer mix, Cody. I enjoy reading, music, and long walks, which help me stay grounded and inspired.
I hold advanced training in Modern Analysis and bring a creative, integrative approach to therapy that encourages curiosity, healing, and self‑discovery.
