Mellissa Berry, LCSW
My desire to help others led me to pursue a career in social work and therapy. After more than 25 years in public service, I saw firsthand how support, compassion, and meaningful connection can transform lives. Becoming a therapist allowed me to combine those values with clinical expertise to help clients heal, grow, and thrive.
I work with adolescents, young adults, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, self‑esteem concerns, relationship challenges, and trauma‑related issues. I’m passionate about helping clients gain insight, build resilience, and create meaningful change through a collaborative and empathetic approach.
My counseling philosophy is rooted in the belief that every person has the capacity for growth and healing. I provide a client‑centered, strengths‑based environment where individuals feel safe, supported, and empowered to explore their emotions and make lasting progress. My goal is to help clients feel understood while developing practical tools to navigate life’s challenges.
With a background in public service, I understand the complexities of balancing work, family, relationships, and personal growth. I bring compassion, authenticity, and practical support to each session, helping clients turn moments of change into opportunities for transformation.
People often describe me as approachable, genuine, and easy to talk to. I value authentic connection and strive to create a warm, welcoming space where clients can be themselves. In addition to my clinical work, I serve as a Practicum Liaison with Rutgers University School of Social Work, mentoring future social workers as they begin their professional journeys.
Outside of work, I enjoy walking in nature, spending time near water, reading, and lifelong learning. I believe balance and self‑awareness are essential to well‑being — both personally and professionally.
One quote that guides my practice is from Carl Jung:
“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”
I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) from Rutgers University School of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Psychology from William Paterson University. I also hold specialized certification in the treatment of gambling addiction.
